How do you make poppy seed and orange cake?
- This cake is very easy to make. You will only need a spoon and a bowl. No electric mixer.
- Measure your dry ingredients. In this example, you will need to measure plain flour, baking powder, and caster sugar. You can substitute granulated sugar for caster sugar.
- Next, add the poppy seeds and orange zest.
- Next, add the orange Juice, eggs and oil. Finally, combine the vanilla with the oil. You could also use a light olive or grape seed oil.
- For maximum flavour, I recommend using fresh orange Juice with zest as per the recipe.
- Greek yogurt and milk are the final ingredients. Greek yogurt gives your cake a light, tender crumb. Sour cream can be used in place of Greek yogurt.
- Mix everything until well combined. Pour into a baking pan lined with parchment or baking paper.
- Don’t overbake this cake. Start checking the bread at 35 minutes. If the centre of the cake comes out clean, insert a knife or other skewer.
How to make orange cream cheese frosting?
- To make this frosting, you will need either a stand or a hand mixer. Use a full-fat block of cream cheese, not the spreadable or light version.
- Make sure your butter and cream cheese are at room temperature for a creamy frosting.
- After you have combined the butter and cream cheese, you will need to add 3 cups of Icing Sugar.
- We add a teaspoon of fresh orange Juice to milk or cream instead of adding it. This is just to give the orange flavour a boost.
