What are you looking for?

Chicken breast

For the most effortless preparation, I use skinless, boneless chicken breast. If you can find them in your local grocery store, you can use pre-prepared chicken breast slices or steaks.

Breadcrumbs

Try panko breadcrumbs to make a crispy and light breading. Pork rinds and almond meals can be substituted for gluten-free breading.

Flour

Use regular all-purpose or bread flour if you don’t have any other type. If you like, you can use gluten-free almond flour.

Eggs

This will help bind the crumbs to the schnitzels. You can use three teaspoons of mayonnaise if you don’t want to use eggs.

Seasoning

I use some garlic powder, pepper, and salt. You can use any seasoning or spice blend you want with the chicken.

Olive oil

You can make your chicken schnitzel crispy by brushing on some oil. You can use any cooking oil with a high smoking point, such as avocado or vegetable oil.

If you prefer, you can use an oil sprayer. Choose a cooking spray that sprays rather than one that is aerosolized. Avoid using generic ‘cooking’ spray as it can damage the nonstick coating on your air fryer basket.

How to cook chicken schnitzel using an air fryer

Step 1. Prepare schnitzels. Cut the chicken breast into two halves. Place your hand flat over the breast of the chicken and use a sharp, thin knife to slice it horizontally into two steaks.

Roll the chicken steaks with a rolling pin until they become thin. Use a meat mallet or hammer to thin the chicken steaks.

Add breading and chicken schnitzels. Put the flour into a large bowl. Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow bowl.

Toss the chicken in flour to coat. Split the yolk of the egg and add it to the bowl with the chicken. Toss the chicken pieces to make sure they are all coated.

It is time to pre-heat the air fryer. (360degF/180degC).

Place each chicken piece into the bowl of breadcrumbs and turn it to coat thoroughly. Press the breadcrumb mixture onto the chicken and transfer to a plate.

Spray the oil on them or lightly brush it onto the chicken schnitzels. You can skip this step if you want to reduce fat. However, it will help make the chicken schnitzels extra crispy.

Step 3: Air fry chicken schnitzels. Arrange chicken schnitzels in an air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure they don’t touch.

If your air fryer is small, you may have to cook schnitzels in batches or with a layering accessory.

Ingredients

  • One egg
  • 2 Tablespoons of flour
  • Note 1: 1 cup of breadcrumbs

    2. Roll the chicken steaks with a rolling pin until they reach a thickness of about 1/2 inch.
    3. Place the breadcrumbs into a large shallow dish. Combine the flour with garlic powder, pepper, and salt in a large bowl.
    4. Toss the chicken in the flour mixture to coat.

    6. Pre-heat the air fryer to 360degF (182degC).
    7. Place each chicken schnitzel piece into the breadcrumbs and turn to coat thoroughly. Press the breadcrumbs on the chicken before transferring them to a serving plate.
    8. Brush or spray the chicken schnitzels lightly with oil.
