How to make gin

Does your signature drink include a classic G&T? Do you have a collection of artisanal spirits and an extensive juniper collection?

You can make your Gin without expensive equipment or a degree in chemistry. Gin is created by distilling neutral grain alcohol, juniper berries, and other botanicals. The botanicals infuse the spirit raw to release their flavors. The recipe can be varied by adding different fruits, spices, and floral elements.

Add a bottle of our simple compound-gin recipe to your drink cabinet. A good quality vodka is the ideal base to personalize Gin. Learn the secret formula for making the perfect Gin and tonic.

How to make Gin

Easy compound gin Recipe

Ingredients:

  • We used a good quality 700ml bottle (Rye vodka).
  • 2 tbsp juniper berries
  • Six cardamom pods
  • pinch dried rose petals
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • Lemon peel strips

Method:

  1. Add the remaining ingredients to the vodka bottle. To get a more robust flavor, it is a good idea first to crush the cardamom and juniper in a pestle-and-mortar. Place the lid on the bottle, and let it sit in a dark place at a cool temperature for 24 hours.
  2. Pour the infusion back into the bottle. Keeps for several months in a dark, cool place. Use it as you would with any other gin. It is excellent in a Martini or tonic.

Tip:

You can make your compound gin to create your desired flavor profile. You can add more or fewer spices or flavorings, such as black pepper, allspice, or licorice root.
