How To Make The Best Sangria

If you’re looking for a delicious beverage to pair with your food delivery, it’s hard to beat an ice cold glass of sangria. Sangria is a tasty summertime drink and also one of Spain’s most famous culinary exports, enjoyed by many all around the world. Deriving its name from the Spanish word for ‘blood’ (sangre) due to its rich, deep red colour, sangria is a wine punch that is super easy to make.

The best sangria is extremely versatile -if you include a few basic ingredients, you can customise your sangria to suit your own taste.  In Spain and Portugal, you’ll find it in every bar, though the best sangria is usually made at home or served at house parties in a large punch bowl with a wooden ladle. Try making it at home or ordering from a fine restaurant. But whatever you do, don’t buy the pre-mixed varieties -it just won’t taste the same as freshly made. Essential ingredients for the best sangria are wine, chopped fruit, a sweetening agent, and a spirit such as brandy. Through a tough experimentation process ;) this is one of the best sangria recipes we’ve found.

Ingredients:

– 1 bottle of red wine

– 2 large oranges, one sliced one juiced

– 1 apple, sliced

– 1 shot of brandy or Cointreau

– ¼ cup sugar

– 2 cups soda water

Combine all the ingredients except for the soda water in a large pitcher. For the best sangria, refrigerate and allow to sit overnight. If you don’t have that much time, letting it sit for a couple hours minimum is best. Then add the soda water and pour in glasses over ice.

Another popular variety, called sangria blanca, is made with white wine and can feature pear, peaches, apples or raspberries. And if you’d rather do without the alcohol, a virgin sangria can be made from grape juice, apples or oranges, carbonated water, sugar and the juice of a lemon. The great thing about making the best sangria is that you really can’t go wrong, and you can have fun experimenting to find the exact blend that you enjoy. This refreshing drink is perfect to pair with a selection of tapas, like fine Serrano ham to potatoes with garlic aioli or olives or garlic prawns. Or equally perfect with your favourite pizza delivery, and sit back and savour the combination of mouth-watering takeaway and the best sangria.
